PLAY AND SCORING

  • The tournament will be broken into two playing sessions – 1.) “Round-Robin” format and those results will be used to build and seed the 2.) “Championship Bracket”
  • Round Robin Play: your team will be randomly designated to a court and group, where you will play each team in your group.
    • At the beginning of each match a coin-toss will take place – the winner will toss first, choose their bag color and have the option to either select which lane they prefer OR select the head-to-head matchup.  The losing team of the coin-toss will have the choice to determine what the winner does not (lanes or head-to-head).
    • Round-Robin play, unlike the Championship Bracket, matches will be allowed 20-minutes to be completed to ensure timely flow of the tournament.  Should a team not reach 21 points, the match will still be count and recorded.  Either way, your point total – not your wins or losses – will count toward your team’s standing and seeding when the Championship Bracket is built.
    • Teams that were randomly assigned to a Round-Robin group with less teams will be adjusted using their average points per Round-Robin match as an equalizer.
    • The top four teams from each Round-Robin group advance.  *Should teams be tied – first tie-break is win/loss record, second is average win/loss margin, and third is a coin-toss.
  • Championship Bracket Play: should your team advance, you will be seeded 1 through 16 based on your point total from Round-Robin matches.
    • These will be single-elimination matches, first team to 21 (time restriction will not apply).
    • At the beginning of each match, the higher seed chooses their bag color and one of the following options:  which lane they prefer OR the head-to-head matchup.  The lower seed will have the choice to determine what the winner does not (lanes or head-to-head).
  • Scoring and the court layout will be in compliance with ACO (American Cornhole Organization) rules – www.americancornhole.com
    • Each bag on the board = 1 point
    • Each bag in the board = 3 points
    • Any bags touching the ground or “bounced” onto the board do not count and are to be removed prior to the next bag being thrown by the opposing team
    • Cancellation Scoring: only one team may score per round.  Total points for each team are calculated using only those points that were not canceled out.  For example: Team 1 throws a bag in the hole and the others land on the board for a total of (6) points.  Team 2 throws a bag in the hole and two bags land on the board for a total of (5) points.  The result is Team 1 receives (1) point for that round.
    • The first team to reach or exceed (21) points will win the match
    • A tie will require extra tosses until a winner is decided
    • In the event of a disagreement, GBYF officials will make the final decision by referring to ACO regulations
    • All cornhole boards and cornhole bags will be provided by GBYF – no personal bags or equipment are permitted
    • Cornhole boards will be positioned 27’ from front edge to front edge
